Interdisciplinary study is no longer a sidebar for academic disciplines. It is absolutely necessary. In virtually every discipline, including law, there are questions that cannot be adequately answered from within the discipline. It is essential to interact with others from other disciplines and to engage with their research. Otherwise, one can only view issues from within the artificial box of a specific discipline. This constrains one’s horizons and may cause researchers to miss important elements affecting whatever issues they are researching. One need not be a dilettante or expert in every field to engage with other disciplines in a helpful, yet careful, manner. Interdisciplinarity is essential to my research.
